Caledonian Sleeper from Birmingham International from Jan 2026

Caledonian Sleeper from Birmingham International from Jan 2026

Caledonian sleeper is introducing a Birmingham International - Scotland route from January.

I realise it is out of our area, but posting in case anyone has been considering the sleeper, but the idea of having to go indirectly via London to get it hasn't appealed.   Probably of more relevance to those in the Cotswolds than Wiltshire/Somerset.

Now if GWR could just extend its Saturday Bristol-Oxford train and run an extra service that is a direct connection into the sleeper, some of us would be very happy (even happier if Caledonian sleeper could find a bi-mode loco and operate a service from Bristol-Bath area)

Thanks for this. Northbound from Birmingham International at 22:42 c.f. the Crewe calling time of 23:45, so perhaps its anticipated that  people from the West Country / Wales will continue to head for Crewe (or Euston), otherwise wouldn't New Street be the candidate station for this?

The return service sets you down at International at 06:20.

Agreed on the Angloscottish / West Country sleeper.

Ah, the routing avoids New Street.

The platforms at New Street cannot accommodate a train of that length without obstructing access to ther platforms.

I suspect it forms a very convenient parliamentary train from Stetchford to Bushbury Junction ...

Ah. One of these days I'll learn to think. In the meantime, New Street Station's platform lengths are to be found here.
