Transport police moving back to Brunels building? Posted by infoman at 17:20, 14th December 2023 |
Planing application has been submitted for the BTP at Bristol to move back to Brunels former building.
From Bristol Post
The dilapidated, Grade I-listed Lower Passenger Shed at Bristol Temple Meads, part of Brunel’s terminus station, will be refurbished to become the new local base for British Transport Police (BTP). Plans were approved in February for a new cafe and shops in the main station entrance and forecourt, with the intention to move BTP from there to make way for the facilities, which are “currently somewhat lacking”, the application said.
The Passenger Shed is about halfway down on the left of Station Approach from the main road. Network Rail is asking for listed building consent but does not need planning consent as the works are considered permitted development under the Great Western Railway Act 1836, which is still in force today.
Planning documents said: “The proposals will provide better facilities for the Transport Police bringing their offices up to modern standards in a sympathetic manner. This part of the station has been empty for some time and getting it back into a railway functional use is the best way of preserving this important building.”
