We were delighted to honour Kathryn Osmond, who fought tirelessly to raise awareness of and funds for treating melanoma, in Bristol on Intercity Express Train 800023. She was a paramedic for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust and died two years ago today after a battle with the disease. Kathryn was voted by the public to be honoured as part of our 100 Great Westerners campaign, highlighting the achievements of great people in the regions we serve.

That explains that then. I saw it working the 1100 BRI PAD this morning and I wondered who she was...

A new intercity express train is to be named after a Bristol fundraiser who fought to raise awareness of melanoma.

Kathryn Osmond, who died last year, had worked as a paramedic for the South Western Ambulance Service, for 16 years.

The train naming will take place in front of members of Ms Osmond's immediate family, friends and former colleagues at Bristol Temple Meads later today, and the name is to be unveiled by Kathryn’s partner Sara.

The 41 year old studied emergency care at the University of the West of England in Bristol and worked in Bristol and Weston-super-Mare.
